Alberta iGaming Market Reaches 50+ Licensed Sites After Deadline

Alberta’s regulated online gambling market has expanded to 51 licensed sites operated by 29 companies following the end of the province’s transition period on October 13, 2026.

The deadline required operators already accepting bets from Albertans before the regulated market opened to join the new system or stop serving customers in the province.

Alberta launched its regulated private iGaming market on July 13, initially welcoming 22 online gambling sites. The latest expansion marks a significant increase in the number of platforms available under the provincial framework.

Regulators Turn Attention to Unlicensed Operators

Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) CEO Dan Keene described the October deadline as an important milestone, noting that operators had responded positively to the opportunity to enter the regulated market.

However, companies that continue operating outside the approved system now face potential enforcement action.

Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is expected to lead regulatory compliance efforts, working alongside AiGC to identify operators that have not met provincial requirements.

The government had previously signalled its intention to take a firm approach toward unlicensed gambling platforms once the transition period ended.

More Online Gambling Brands Expected

The market’s expansion may not be over. Several companies that registered with the provincial regulator had yet to begin accepting bets as of October 14. These included 888, Betano, BetNova, GGPoker, PointsBet, River Cree iGaming and ToonieBet.

AiGC expects additional sites to launch before the end of 2026, potentially increasing the total to around 60–65 platforms.

The coming months will test how effectively Alberta can grow its regulated market while bringing remaining unlicensed operators into compliance.
