Betway has officially joined Alberta’s regulated iGaming market, becoming one of the latest major brands to make the transition from the province’s previously unregulated market.
Betway Expands Its Presence to Alberta
The online sportsbook and casino brand, owned by Super Group, began operating under Alberta’s regulated framework in late September. The move was confirmed by the Alberta iGaming Corporation as the province approaches its October 13 deadline for operators transitioning from the grey market.
Betway is now one of several Super Group brands registered to operate in Alberta. The company has also brought Royal Vegas, Ruby Fortune and Spin into the province’s regulated market, while Jackpot City is among its other registered brands.
Alberta launched its commercial iGaming market on July 13, initially with around 20 online betting and casino sites. The number has since grown beyond 30, with several additional operators expected to launch as the transition period comes to an end.
October 13 Deadline Approaches
The province’s regulatory system requires operators that were already active in Alberta to either obtain approval and comply with local licensing requirements or stop offering unregulated gambling services to residents. The three-month transition period was designed to give eligible companies time to complete that process.
According to Alberta officials, the market could reach approximately 60 or 61 licensed sites by October 13. Some operators that previously served Alberta have already chosen to leave rather than apply for a regulated position.
Betway’s arrival therefore forms part of a broader expansion of Alberta’s regulated iGaming market, with more brands expected to enter in the coming weeks.
