River Cree Partners With GiG for Alberta Online Casino Launch

River Cree Resort & Casino is preparing to enter Alberta’s regulated online gambling market through a new technology partnership with Gaming Innovation Group (GiG).

The agreement will see GiG provide the platform and digital infrastructure for the First Nations-owned casino’s online expansion. The planned offering includes online casino games, sports betting, a native mobile application and integrated digital services.

River Cree Extends Its Gaming Operations Online

Owned by the Enoch Cree Nation, River Cree has operated in Alberta since 2006. The Edmonton-area property registered with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis earlier in 2026 as it prepared to enter the province’s regulated online market.

According to GiG, its technology will help connect River Cree’s established land-based operations with its planned digital platform. The package also includes data analytics, automated operational tools and managed services designed to support player engagement and business operations.

River Cree CEO Vik Mahajan described the move as the next stage in delivering gaming and entertainment experiences across different channels.

Competition Intensifies in Alberta

Alberta opened its regulated private iGaming market on July 13, 2026, allowing eligible commercial and First Nations casino operators to expand online.

River Cree will become the fifth operator partner supported by GiG in Alberta. The technology provider already works with brands including Casino Time, LuckyDays and PowerPlay.

Another Indigenous-linked operator, PURE Casino Entertainment, entered Alberta’s online market in August with a platform powered by Boyd Interactive technology and sports betting supplied by Kambi.

With dozens of online gambling brands now competing in Alberta, River Cree’s planned launch represents another established land-based operator seeking a position in the province’s expanding digital gaming sector.
